Article: Summer Outfits for Anyone Who Lives in Hoodies and Sweatpants

Summer Outfits for Anyone Who Lives in Hoodies and Sweatpants

Summer Outfits for Anyone Who Lives in Hoodies and Sweatpants

Some people switch into a completely different style the second summer starts.

Me? I’m still reaching for hoodies, sweatpants, oversized tees, and anything soft enough to actually live in.

I get it. When you have a comfy style, summer can feel tricky. Everyone starts pulling out tiny tops, denim shorts, dresses, button-ups, sandals, and vacation fits, and suddenly it feels like you’re supposed to dress like a totally different person just because it’s hot outside.

That’s always how I think about getting dressed, but especially for summer plans. I never want to wear something that looks good for one photo and then annoys me the rest of the day. I want pieces that feel easy, move with me, and still make me feel put together without trying too hard.

But I don’t think summer should make you give up your actual style.

This is for anyone who loves a relaxed fit. The hoodie people. The sweatpants people. The oversized tee people. The “I want to be comfy but still look good” people.

You can still wear relaxed pieces. You can still dress cozy. You can still keep that streetwear/loungewear vibe. You just have to style it in a way that makes sense for the weather.

That’s the whole Marieloulou mindset. I design pieces for real days — school days, dance days, travel days, chill days, hustle days, and the days where you want to look put together without feeling like you tried too hard.

So if you basically live in hoodies and sweatpants, this one’s for you.

First, yes — you can wear sweatpants in the summer

I’m always going to defend sweatpants.

Even in summer.

The trick is not pretending it’s fall when it’s super hot outside. The trick is balancing the outfit so it still feels light, easy, and wearable.

Yes, you can wear sweatpants in the summer if you balance them with a lighter top and breathable styling.

If you’re wearing sweatpants, pair them with something that gives the outfit room to breathe. Think tanks, fitted tees, cropped tees, baby tees, lightweight oversized tees, or anything soft that does not feel too heavy.

Proportions matter a lot here. Wide-leg sweatpants with a smaller top always hit because the outfit has shape. It feels relaxed, but still intentional. You get that comfy streetwear look without feeling like you just rolled out of bed.

And honestly, even if you did just roll out of bed, no one has to know.

That’s the best part about a good comfy outfit. It gives you that easy feeling, but still makes you look like you actually thought about the fit.

The summer hoodie rule

A hoodie can still work in summer, but it should be treated like a layer.

That means you probably are not wearing it all day in the sun. You’re bringing it for later. You’re throwing it on in cold indoor places. You’re wearing it after dance. You’re keeping it close for summer nights, long car rides, movie theaters, airports, classrooms, or anywhere the AC is doing way too much.

Summer outside and summer inside are basically two different seasons.

A summer hoodie outfit works best when the hoodie is used as a layer, not the whole outfit.

My favorite way to style a hoodie in summer is simple: start with a tank or tee, add relaxed bottoms, then wear the hoodie over your shoulders, tie it around your waist, or keep it nearby for later.

That way, you still get the hoodie vibe without overheating just to prove a point.

Because comfort is not only about wearing soft clothes. It’s about wearing the right pieces for the moment you’re actually in.

OUTFIT IDEA 1: Tank + wide-leg sweatpants + sneakers

This is one of my favorite summer outfit formulas because it is so easy and it works almost every time.

Start with a tank. Add wide-leg sweatpants. Finish with sneakers.

That’s the base.

The tank keeps the outfit light, while the sweatpants keep it comfortable. The sneakers pull it together and give it that everyday streetwear feel.

This outfit works for errands, travel days, dance days, chill plans, casual hangouts, or those random summer days where you might end up doing five different things.

Color makes a big difference here too. A white tank with gray wide-leg sweatpants feels clean and effortless. A black tank with light sweatpants feels more streetwear. A navy, cream, or soft earth-tone top makes the outfit feel relaxed but still styled.

The easiest comfy summer outfit is a tank or tee with relaxed bottoms, clean sneakers, and a lightweight layer nearby.

That’s really the formula. You can switch the colors, the shoes, or the layer, but the idea stays the same.

Comfy base. Clean shape. Easy details.

OUTFIT IDEA 2: Oversized tee + soft shorts

For the days when sweatpants are just too much, soft shorts are the move.

An oversized tee with soft shorts gives you the same cozy energy, but in a more summer-friendly way. You still get that relaxed shape without the full warmth of sweatpants.

This is the kind of outfit I’d wear for a lazy day, a quick food run, hanging outside, going to practice, or just chilling with friends.

The key is making it look intentional.

You can tuck the tee slightly in the front, roll the sleeves once, add clean sneakers or slides, and throw on a simple necklace or hoops. You can also add a claw clip, a cap, or a crossbody bag if you want the outfit to feel more finished.

Small details change everything.

There’s a difference between “I just threw this on” and “I just threw this on, but somehow it looks good.”

That’s the sweet spot I always love.

OUTFIT IDEA 3: Baby tee + relaxed lounge pants

A baby tee with relaxed lounge pants is perfect when you want something comfy but a little more fitted on top.

This outfit gives shape without feeling uncomfortable. The top keeps the look cute and clean, while the bottoms keep it easy.

I like this formula because it works for so many real-life summer plans. You can wear it to school, to the mall, to a casual lunch, on a travel day, or just around the house when you still want to feel like yourself.

The shoes can change the whole vibe too.

Sneakers make it feel more streetwear. Slides make it feel more chill. Platform sneakers make it feel a little more styled. A hoodie or lightweight zip-up adds that cozy layer for later.

This is one of those outfits that feels simple, but when the fit is right, it looks really put together.

And that’s always the goal for me. I do not want outfits that look like they took a whole hour. I want outfits that feel natural, comfortable, and still cute enough to wear out.

OUTFIT IDEA 4: THE "I JUST WANNA WEAR SWEATPANTS" FIT

I’m always going to defend sweatpants, even in summer.

The key is choosing the right styling around them. If you’re wearing wide-leg sweatpants in the summer, keep the top lighter. A fitted tank, cropped tee, or soft baby tee balances the shape and keeps the outfit from feeling too heavy.

Then think about color. Gray sweatpants with a white top and red details? Cute. Navy or blue sweats with a white tank? Easy. Black wide-leg sweatpants with a white tee and red sneakers? Still works.

The trick is making the sweatpants feel styled on purpose.

Add earrings. Do your hair in a slick bun or braids. Wear a clean sneaker. Add a cute bag. Suddenly it’s not “just sweatpants.” It’s a fit.

That’s why I love comfy clothes so much. They give you room to move, but with the right styling, they still give confidence.

OUTFIT IDEA 5: Hoodie over the shoulders + relaxed bottoms

This one is for the hoodie people who want the hoodie in the outfit, even if they are not actually wearing it.

Wearing a hoodie over your shoulders gives that cozy layered vibe without making you too hot. It adds shape, color, and texture to the outfit, but you still get to keep things light.

Try it with a tank and soft shorts for a summer day. Or pair it with a fitted tee and wide-leg sweatpants for a cooler summer night.

This is also a good travel outfit trick. You can wear the hoodie when you’re cold, take it off when you’re warm, and still have it look like part of the outfit.

A hoodie does not always have to be worn to count.

Sometimes it’s just there to complete the vibe.

How to make comfy summer outfits look more put together

The difference between comfy and sloppy usually comes down to styling.

You do not need a complicated outfit. You just need a few details that make it feel intentional.

Start with proportion. If the bottoms are baggy, try a smaller top. If the top is oversized, balance it with shorts, cleaner shoes, or a more styled accessory.

Then think about color. Neutrals always make comfy outfits feel more elevated. White, gray, black, navy, cream, brown, and soft earth tones are easy to mix and rewear.

Shoes matter too. Clean sneakers can make sweatpants look styled instantly. Slides can work for a relaxed summer look, but the outfit should still feel intentional.

Accessories do not have to be loud. Simple hoops, a necklace, a cute bag, a claw clip, braids, a slick bun, or a clean pair of sunglasses can pull everything together.

Comfy summer outfits can still look put together when the fit, color, and styling details feel intentional.

It’s not about doing the most.

It’s about making the outfit feel like a choice.

WHAT I WOULD AVOID WHEN STYLING HOODIES AND SWEATPANTS IN SUMMER

The biggest thing I’d avoid is wearing pieces that are too heavy for the weather.

You can still dress cozy, but summer outfits need breathing room. If your hoodie is super thick, save it for night. If your sweatpants are warm, pair them with a lighter top. If the whole outfit feels heavy before you even leave the house, switch one piece out.

I’d also avoid forcing an outfit just because it looks cute in your head.

I’ve done that before. You imagine the fit, it looks cute, you put it on, and then five minutes later you already know it’s not going to work for the day.

If you know you’re going to be outside for hours, choose the version of the outfit that lets you actually enjoy yourself.

Comfort is not just softness. Comfort is not having to adjust your outfit every two seconds. It’s not being too hot, too restricted, or annoyed by what you’re wearing.

The best outfit is the one you can forget about because you feel good in it.

You do not have to change your whole style for summer

This is the part I really care about.

You do not have to change your whole style for summer. You just have to adjust the weight, colors, layers, and proportions.

If you love hoodies, keep the hoodie. Just make it a layer.

If you love sweatpants, keep the sweatpants. Just balance them with a lighter top.

If you love oversized pieces, keep them. Just style them in a way that still gives the outfit shape.

If you love neutrals, wear neutrals. If you love color, add color. If you like your outfits simple, keep them simple.

Summer style does not have to mean dressing like someone else.

It should still feel like you.

My go-to summer uniform

My summer uniform is honestly pretty simple. A fitted tank or tee. Wide-leg sweatpants or soft shorts. Clean sneakers or slides. A hoodie or light layer nearby. Simple jewelry. Hair pulled back if it’s hot.

That formula works almost every time.

It gives me the cozy pieces I love, but it still feels like summer. I can wear it to run errands, go to dance, hang out, travel, or just have one of those chill days where I still want to feel cute.

That’s what I love about comfy streetwear. It does not have to be complicated to look good.

When the pieces fit right and feel good, you do not have to overthink it.

FINAL THOUGHTS

You do not have to stop dressing like yourself just because it’s summer.

If you live in hoodies and sweatpants, I get it. Those are the pieces that feel like home. They’re easy. They’re soft. They move with you. They make you feel comfortable in your own skin.

And with the right styling, they can still look cute in the summer.

You can wear relaxed pieces and still look put together. You can be cozy and still have style. You can keep your favorite outfit formulas and just make small changes for the weather.

The best summer outfits are the ones you can actually live in.

Move in them. Chill in them. Go out in them. Dance in them. Sit in the car for too long in them. Laugh with your friends in them. Feel like yourself in them.

That’s the vibe I always want Marieloulou to give.

Comfy, cute, and still very much you.
