Article: The Cozy Fall Packing List for Weekend Trips

The Cozy Fall Packing List for Weekend Trips

Fall weekend trips are my favorite kind of trip because the outfits actually get to have layers.

Summer packing is cute, but fall packing is where the real personality comes in. Scarves, oversized crewnecks, cozy pants, big bags, boots, soft textures, pieces you can wear in the car and still look cute when you arrive. That is the dream.

But packing for a fall weekend can also get annoying fast because the weather is dramatic. It is cold in the morning, warm by lunch, windy and chilly by dinner, and somehow raining the second you decide to wear your favorite pair of shoes.

So this is my cozy fall packing list for weekend trips. The goal is not to pack your whole closet. The goal is to bring pieces that actually work together, keep you comfortable, and still make you feel put together in every photo, coffee stop, Target run, cabin morning, road trip snack break, or random little adventure.

Basically, soft clothes that can handle the whole weekend.

Start with the travel outfit

The travel outfit matters because it sets the tone.

I want something comfortable enough to sit in for hours, but cute enough that I do not feel like I need to immediately change when I get there. This is where Marieloulou pieces make the most sense.

My go-to would be a soft crewneck, wide-leg sweatpants, and sneakers or boots. If you are packing from the Homebody collection, the reversible crewneck is perfect because it gives you two looks in one piece. That is exactly what I want when I am trying not to overpack.

For bottoms, I would bring blanket pants, sherpa sweatpants, or wide-leg sweats depending on the vibe of the trip. Blanket pants are for the cozy road trip version of you. Sherpa sweatpants are for the person who is cold before everyone else is cold. Wide-leg sweats are the easiest everyday option because they can go from car to coffee shop to dinner without trying too hard.

The travel outfit formula:

Soft crewneck
Cozy pants
Comfortable shoes
Big scarf or hoodie nearby
Tote bag with everything you keep reaching for

This is the kind of outfit that feels like home, but still looks intentional.

Pack one main cozy layer

For a fall weekend trip, you need one layer that does the most.

Not five random hoodies. Not a bunch of sweaters you might wear. One really good cozy layer you know you will reach for.

A Marieloulou blanket hoodie is perfect for this because it has that wrapped-up feeling without literally walking around in a blanket. It works for the car, chilly mornings, late-night porch sitting, hotel rooms, cabins, movie nights, and those moments when everyone else says “it’s not that cold” and you strongly disagree.

If you are bringing a reversible crewneck from Homebody, that can also be your main layer. I love a piece that gives options because weekend bags fill up fast. Being able to flip the look makes the outfit feel fresh without needing to pack something extra.

The best fall layers are cozy, oversized, and easy to throw on over anything.

Bring the scarf that becomes the outfit

A scarf is not just a scarf on a fall trip. It is basically a styling tool.

The Homebody scarves are 7'8" long, which means they can be wrapped, draped, doubled up, or worn dramatically over a simple outfit. I love that because fall outfits do not always need to be complicated. Sometimes the base is just a tee, sweats, and boots, then the scarf makes the whole thing feel styled.

Pack one oversized scarf in a neutral or fall-friendly color. It will work with almost everything in your bag and it will save you when the temperature drops.

Ways I would wear it:

Wrapped over a crewneck with sweatpants
Draped over a fitted top and wide-leg pants
Layered with a hoodie and rain boots
Thrown over shoulders for a coffee run
Wrapped twice when the wind gets disrespectful

It is cozy, dramatic, and practical. My favorite combination.

Pack bottoms you can actually live in

Fall weekend trips usually involve a lot of sitting, walking, driving, eating, and wandering around. So the bottoms have to be comfortable.

This is not the moment for pants that only look good standing up.

I would pack two pairs: one soft lounge-style bottom and one slightly more styled bottom.

For the cozy option, bring Marieloulou blanket pants or sherpa sweatpants. These are the pieces you will want for slow mornings, long drives, cabin nights, and cold hotel rooms. They feel relaxed, but if you style them with a cute top and boots or sneakers, they still look like a real outfit.

For the more styled option, bring wide-leg sweatpants or a statement pair like the Cozy Cowboy fringed sweatpants. The fringe gives the outfit movement and makes it feel more like a look, even if you are still basically wearing sweats. That is exactly the Marieloulou sweet spot.

Comfort, but make people ask where you got it.

Add one statement piece

Every weekend bag needs one piece that makes the outfits feel less basic.

This could be a Cozy Cowboy fringe crewneck, fringed sweatpants, a huge scarf, a lace detail, or anything with texture. The point is to bring one thing that can turn a simple outfit into something more memorable.

I love packing a statement piece because it keeps me from bringing too many “maybe” outfits. Instead of packing five different looks, I bring one piece that does the work.

For example:

A fringe crewneck with simple sweats
Fringed sweatpants with a plain tank or tee
A giant scarf over a basic crewneck
Sherpa sweatpants with a fitted top and boots
A blanket hoodie with tall rain boots

The statement piece should still be wearable. I do not want anything that makes the trip harder. I want the piece that feels fun without being high-maintenance.

Shoes: comfort first, but still cute

Marieloulou does not make shoes, so this is where I would bring in outside pieces that still fit the vibe.

For a fall weekend trip, I would pack one pair of comfortable sneakers and one pair of boots.

Sneakers are for the drive, walking around, and casual outfits. Keep them simple and easy. White, cream, gray, brown, or black all work with the Marieloulou cozy palette.

For boots, I love Hunter rain boots. They feel practical, classic, and still cute with oversized layers. They also make sense for fall because you never really know what the weather is going to do. Rain, mud, wet leaves, random outdoor plans, pumpkin patches, cabin weekends, little coffee walks. Rain boots can handle all of it.

I would style Hunter rain boots with sherpa sweatpants tucked slightly at the ankle, blanket pants, leggings, or wide-leg sweats depending on the fit. Add a big scarf or crewneck and it instantly feels like a fall outfit.

Other shoe options that fit the vibe:

Chunky sneakers
Tall rain boots
Mini boots
Clogs
Platform slippers for indoor-only moments

The rule is simple: do not pack shoes that make the trip less fun.

Do not forget the tiny cozy things

The small stuff matters.

If you are going somewhere colder, bring thick socks. Not the sad thin socks that disappear inside your shoes. Real cozy socks. The kind that make a cabin morning or hotel night feel better.

I would also pack a beanie, claw clip, lip balm, headphones, and a tote bag big enough to carry your extra layer. If you are going somewhere rainy or windy, a compact umbrella is smart too.

Marieloulou is all about clothes that make real life feel better, and honestly, packing is the same way. The little things are what save you when the day changes.

Tiny cozy packing list:

Thick socks
Beanie
Claw clip
Lip balm
Headphones
Tote bag
Compact umbrella
Mini perfume or body spray
Book or journal
Portable charger

Nothing too dramatic. Just the things you will be happy you brought.

The outfit formulas I would pack

Here are the exact formulas I would build the weekend around.

The road trip fit

Reversible Homebody crewneck
Wide-leg sweatpants
Sneakers
Oversized scarf nearby

This is the fit for driving, gas station stops, playlists, and arriving cute without trying.

The coffee run fit

Baby tee or tank
Blanket pants
Homebody scarf
Hunter rain boots or sneakers

Soft, easy, and very “I just threw this on” in the best way.

The rainy day fit

Blanket hoodie
Sherpa sweatpants
Hunter rain boots
Beanie

This is the cozy survival outfit. Perfect for rainy walks, cabin mornings, or any day that feels gray and chilly.

The cute dinner but still comfy fit

Fitted top
Cozy Cowboy fringed sweatpants
Crewneck over shoulders or scarf
Boots

Still comfortable, but the fringe makes it feel styled.

The slow morning fit

Blanket pants
Soft tee
Oversized crewneck
Thick socks

For breakfast, lounging, packing up, or sitting around before the day starts.

How to avoid overpacking

The easiest way to avoid overpacking is to choose a color palette before you throw things in the bag.

For a Marieloulou fall weekend, I would keep it soft and earthy: cream, gray, black, brown, navy, soft pink, and maybe one statement color or texture.

Then make sure every top works with every bottom. That way, you can mix things without thinking.

A good weekend packing formula:

Two cozy bottoms
Two light tops
One main hoodie or crewneck
One statement piece
One oversized scarf
One sneaker
One boot
Cozy socks and small accessories

That is enough.

You do not need ten outfits for a two-night trip. You need pieces that make sense together.

The cozy packing checklist

Here is the quick version.

Pack:

One Marieloulou reversible crewneck
One blanket hoodie or oversized hoodie
One pair of blanket pants
One pair of sherpa sweatpants or wide-leg sweats
One statement piece, like a fringe crewneck or fringed sweatpants
One oversized Homebody scarf
Two light tops for layering
Comfortable sneakers
Hunter rain boots or another weather-proof boot
Thick socks
Beanie or hair accessory
Tote bag
Lip balm, headphones, charger, and a book or journal

That is the cozy half of the trip handled.

Final thoughts

A fall weekend trip is not about packing the most clothes. It is about packing the right pieces.

You want outfits that can handle the drive, the weather, the coffee stops, the slow mornings, the random plans, and the moments you did not even know were coming. You want to feel cozy without looking like you gave up. You want pieces that move with the trip instead of making you change five times a day.

That is why I love building a weekend bag around Marieloulou.

Start with the soft stuff. Add one dramatic layer. Bring the scarf. Pack the boots. Keep the colors easy. Let the outfits feel comfortable, but still like you.

Cozy fall weekend packing is really just this:

Bring what you will actually wear.
Bring what makes you feel good.
Bring the pieces that make leaving home feel a little more like bringing home with you.

That is the whole vibe.
